    Is this a realistic play? Is this an absurdist play? What makes you think so?

    Some aspects of the play may feel realistic to students—Katurian's anxiety, for instance, or the threatening nature of the police—while others, like Tupolski's peculiar humor and self-awareness, may seem to lean more towards the bizarre or absurd. This is not an absurdist play, per se, but it is highly stylized. It takes place in a world that is clearly in some ways different from our own, even though it may share many characteristics.
