Perception and History
Kind of Activity:
Classwide Discussion
Objective:
Students will analyze the way their own personal history/experiences impact perception and memory and how this concept relates to the book.
Common Core Standards:
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.11-12.7, CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.SL.11-12.1, CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.SL.11-12.3
Structure:
As students walk into class, pretend to be in a heated discussion with someone (talking on your phone, bringing another "actor" in, etc). It should last until a minute or so after class has officially begun.
Then, without mentioning the incident, instruct students to write a brief reflection of 150-200 words about what they saw...
