The Viscount Who Loved Me

The Viscount Who Loved Me Analysis

The Viscount Who Loved Me is a historical romance novel written by Julia Quinn and is the second in her Bridgerton Series. The book was published by Avon on 5 December 2000.

The book follows Anthony Bridgerton, the eldest male of the Bridgerton family and the least willing to get married. Anthony believes he has found a perfect wife in the beautiful belle of the season, Miss Edwina Sheffield. In order to win her hand in marriage, he must win over her sister, Kate, who is desperate to prove him an unchangeable rake.

The main theme throughout the book is that of fearing change. Anthony is scared to marry because he fears having to leave behind a family of his own when he dies. This stops him from wanting to marry for love, and only marry for the sake of carrying on his family name. However, love is unexpected and comes in the form of the sullen and sneaky, Kate, who refuses to let him marry her sister. Kate is also scared of letting herself think of Anthony in a romantic way. She has resigned herself to being unable to be wed, and therefore is scared of her strong reaction to Anthony, who is intent on marrying her beautiful sister instead.
