What is the Superclass? Why do they compete with one another?

The Superclass is made up of the uber wealthy who run the world. They make decisions about finance, fashion, film and science. Their lives are spent always working to make money. Such people never want to look older and compete with one another to stay on top and relevant. They always have their cell phones with them to make them look important; they also travel by private jet and the most expensive cars to show their prestige, and are surrounded by assistants and bodyguards.

Why does Igor find it important to ‘destroy whole worlds’ for Ewe?

Igor believes his love for Ewa is destined by God so will do anything to have her and feels that God will help him to achieve his goal. He told her when they were still married that ‘he would destroy whole worlds’ to keep her by his side and he is a man of his word. He feels that he must keep this promise that he made to her no matter the cost.

Why does Igor feel remorse after killing Olivia? Why does he see her as his guide?

Olivia was an innocent young woman who happened to be in the wrong place at that wrong time when she met Igor. She is not part of the flashy film or fashion industry in Cannes. Because of this she has an affect on Igor. The tragic life that she told him she led makes him feel sorry for her and want to make her death mean something. He wants her to be noticed as the rich and famous are noticed. Her life and death should mean as much as the wealthy visiting Cannes.

Why does Igor kill Ewa instead of wanting her to return to him as he had first planned?

Igor comes to realize that he does not want Ewa back as he thought. He knows that he cannot bring back the past and must look forward. He knows that he will not be able to give up his work and make the life that the two had planned. She is not the same woman he married and as he evolves throughout the novel he is not the same man by the end of the story.
