The GIST of It

Kind of Activity:

Individual Writing

Objective:

Students will write a concise summary of today's reading.

Structure:

For this activity, each student will fill out a separate GIST Template (linked below) for each of the eleven chapters that comprise today's reading. This worksheet will provide them with a simple summary of the basic facts of each section of the text, as well as a succinct plot synopsis. As students fill out more of these with each chapter, they will create a reference that can be returned to if the plot becomes difficult to follow again. The GIST Template may be found here:
