    Character Portraits

    Artistic Response

    Objective:

    Students will create a "portrait" of one of the novel's characters.

    Structure:

    Treacle Walker is simultaneously robust and scant in its depiction of characters. For such a short novel, Garner's prose is full of detail that bring its few characters to live.

    At this point in our study of the novel, students should have clear mental images of three main characters (Joe, Treacle Walker, and Thin Amren), and should have a strong sense of how each of them looks.
