Situation irony
Eden's parents have a clear expectation of their daughter when they bring her up according to religious teachings. The parents want Eden to be disciplined and not get into a sexual relationship before maturity. Ironically, the outcome is devastating because Eden starts getting involved in sexual relationships early in her life. Eden escapes from a religious-approved school and goes to search for freedom. Consequently, Eden does not turn up according to her parents' expectations because she chooses to follow her route.
The irony of Whitney
When Whitney decides to pursue love elsewhere, she thinks she will be happy. Ironically, Whitney meets the wrong people who abuse her sexually and introduce her to drugs and sex. Whitney's ending is catastrophic, and she never expected to suffer at the hands of people who claim they love her. However, Whitney blames her misfortunes on her father, who showed prejudice towards his daughters.
The sexual relationship between Seth and Loren
Seth knows his father cannot approve of same-sex relationships because he rarely talks about it. Ironically, Seth starts a sexual relationship with a man called Loren and goes to ask his father for approval. Readers know that Seth's father will never approve of same-sex relationships, but Seth is optimistic that he will bless them. Paradoxically, Seth and Loren's parents disappoint Seth's ambition to settle down with Loren.
