Turtles All the Way Down Background

Turtles All the Way Down is entrepreneur and author John Green's 2017 follow-up to his 2012 smash-hit The Fault in Our Stars. In the book, we follow a high school student named Aza Holmes. She is wicked smart but struggles with mental health—specifically, anxiety. We follow her struggles trying to cope with her anxiety, but we also follow her mission to figure out the mystery of eccentric billionaire Russell Pickett in hopes of winning the $100,000 prize money.

As of November 2018, Turtles All the Way Down is being adapted into a film by Fox and the showrunners of This is Us, Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger. No release date has thus far been announced for the film.

Upon release, Turtles All the Way Down received rave reviews. On Amazon, the book holds a tremendous rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars. On book review aggregator Goodreads.com, it holds a similarly good rating of 4.02 out of 5 stars. Writes Matt Haig of The Guardian, "[Turtles All the Way] often dwells in cliché, but only as pop songs and epic poems do, mining the universal to create something that speaks to the familiar rhythms of the heart. It might just be a new modern classic." It sold over 120,000 copies in its first week after publication.
