Turtles All the Way Down Irony

Situational irony about the nature of the tuatara

It is ironical that Mark the zoologist, who is in the Pickett Mansion when he is showing Aza and Daisy the pet tuatara, claims that the animal is harmless yet there were obvious scratches on his arms. He should have warned them that the animal is potentially dangerous because it had harmed him before which was obvious from the scratches on his arms.

Situational irony that billionaire Russell Pickett left all his estate to his pet tuatara

It is against the readers’ expectations that the billionaire left all his fortune to the pet lizard and he had two sons who could have been his heirs. It is therefore very peculiar that he did not include either of his children in his will. He left everything including his mansion to the lizard.

Irony of the love that Aza has for her car

It is a situational irony for Aza to proclaim love of the Corinthian kind to a car. This is because the car cannot love her back as it does not possess any human feelings. The Corinthian kind of love is one between two people who share feelings. The love she has for the car makes her tell her friend Daisy not to drink non-clear liquids in it.

Irony of the Sad Camp

It is ironical for the Sad Camp to be named the Sad Camp. This is because it was a place where children whose parent had died went for consolation. It was a camp that was supposed to be a consolation place for the children. Therefore, naming the Camp the Sad Camp is against the mission of the Camp. This camp was where Aza and Davis met for they had both lost one of their parents.

Verbal Irony that Aza would win a Nobel Peace Prize for being pandemic

It is ironical and also sarcastic to claim that Aza would win a Nobel Peace Prize for being pandemic for no Nobel Peace Prizes are given for being pandemic. Daisy made this statement to ridicule Aza for being pandemic rather than encourage her.
