Wild is a 2014 survival movie directed by Jean-Marc Vallée. It is a biographical film, based on the memoir of the same name written by Cheryl Strayed written in 2012. The movie stars Reese Witherspoon, Laura Dern, and Thomas Sadoski, among other prominent actors. The film premiered at the Telluride Film Festival in 2014.
Wild is about a woman named Cheryl Strayed who after a recent divorce, decides to go on a 1,000 mile hike of self-discovery and tranquility, despite her lack of any previous hiking experience. As she trudges along, Cheryl reflects on her life- her childhood, her family, and finally the incident that destroyed her marriage with her ex-husband Paul. The film focuses on Cheryl's efforts to heal from her messy past, and find peace with herself.
The film was critically acclaimed. Reese Witherspoon and Laura Dern both received Academy Award nominations for their impressive performances, and the film won the Location Managers Guild Award for "Outstanding Locations in Contemporary Film". As well, the film received an overall 90% on the movie critic website Rotten Tomatoes, again praising Reese Witherspoon's acting.
