2. Read the first 8 sections of Whitman's "Song of Myself" (lines 1-158). Focus on how Whitman treats nature, other people, children and his own childhood, and his perceptions, a compared to Wordsworth.
3. Read your assigned section of Wordsworth's Prelude. (Teachers should assign about half of one book of the long poem to each group. There are too many books to cover the whole poem, but the most important sections are the first two books covering origins and childhood, the "Books" section about Wordsworth's time as a student in Cambridge and his new awakenings there, and the book on first...
