    An Introduction to Black Feminism

    Kind of Activity:

    Collaborative Writing

    Objective:

    Students will identify key characteristics in Black feminism.

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.11-12.2

    Structure:

    To begin the activity, have students work in pairs to create a word cloud describing their ideas of what feminism is. Then ask, based on what you know about feminism, what do you think Black feminism is? Take answers from 3-4 students. Then, explain to students that Zami is an important Black feminist text. Understanding Black feminism will help them better understand and analyze Zami.
