Why does Stanley care about Belle Reve's fate?
Stanley never wanted the house. Although he might not have expected Belle Reve to produce any money for him, he would have taken his due. The prospect of suffering because his sister or his sister-in-law was swindled, however, is an affront to him personally as well as financially. He despises a cheat and prides himself on never falling for a swindle. He suspects that Blanche herself might be a swindler, and this is what launches his skepticism of her overall story and his ensuing investigation of her recent background.
