The Chorus contemplates the power of the human race and its capacity for good and evil. Then the Sentry discovers Antigone re-burying Polyneices, captures her, and brings her to Creon. Antigone remains defiant, believing that her actions are more just than the law of any earthly man, like Creon, could be.
