A Delegate of the World
Elaborate on a meaningful extra-curricular activity.
“To combat organ trafficking, we must allow people to sell their kidneys!”
Being a Model United Nations delegate has opened my mind to new ideas, whether representing Suriname on the issue of child labor, Iran on the problem of organ trafficking, or South Korea on the topic of the Korean Peninsula. Each conference unfolds a new world for me, a world where children are starving, a world where the poor are exploited for their organs, a world where military tensions are high, a world I’m not used to.
During one conference, I stood up as Iran, arguing for the legalization of selling human organs, a position I would have never even considered if it weren’t for MUN. Although the resolutions written in MUN never get put to practice, the open-mindedness and care for the global community I’ve acquired will continue to be part of me in the future.
