Why Pratt?

If you are applying to the Pratt School of Engineering as a first year applicant, please discuss why you want to study engineering and why you would like to study at Duke.

A devoted technologist, a drama lover, a HAM freak and a Research scholar – for me, the Pratt School of Engineering would fulfill it all…

Duke’s Multi-disciplinary Engineering Program encompassing options from Materials to Fluid Mechanics is my dream. Imagine studying under Professor Chen, researching drag reduction in automobiles at the Perkins Library, or designing durable, cost-effective bridges in the Manufacturing lab, advancing my truss bridge research.

Duke would allow me to integrate dramatics with my major and direct plays on sustainable technologies. Its HAM Radio club, AC4RD, would enable my passion and possibly save lives. I can imagine myself discussing advancements in Math at a Math Union meeting, enjoying the air at the East Campus, or eating a Pizza from the Food Trucks before classes. From having Mid-Night breakfasts, to ‘K-Ville-ing’ for the UNC game, I would love to graduate at Duke, transformed into a leader of the coming generation.
