William Faulkner is widely regarded as one of the greatest English language authors of the 20th century. Although he dabbled in a number of different mediums, including essays, short stories, and screenplays, he is most famous as a novelist of the modernist style. While living, Faulkner spent much of his career in obscurity, until winning the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1949. He also won the Pulitzer Prize in 1954 and 1962.
