Becoming Lesson Plan

As a work of nonfiction, Becoming explores issues that Michelle has gone through, like racial and gender discrimination and oppression. Because these topics can trigger students who continue to face these issues today, it might be helpful to provide some historical context. Showing the reality of racial and gender discrimination throughout history up to the present day (without whitewashing or sugarcoating) can be validating and provide insightful information that will help students talk more sensitively about these topics.
