What is distinctive about the language used when the siblings are formulating a plan to air their grievances? What is the effect of this language?
The language in the early part of Chapter Nine is very sophisticated. Granted, this is a translation and remembered transcription of a conversation long after it was had, but the language is so un-childlike as to jar the reader. These seem less like children complaining about their parents and more like unusually articulate adults chatting about world domination. This takes the reader slightly out of the moment, leading them to momentarily forget the characters as they have been drawn so far.
