City of Glass Background

City of Glass Background

City of Glass is the third book in the Mortal Instruments series written by Cassandra Clare. The book continues is a continuation of the previous two and it follows Clary and Jace as they try to get past their romantic feelings that are inappropriate because of their brother-sister relationship. Different from the first two novels in the series that primarily took place in New York City, the third book takes place in the magical Shadowhunter land called Idris.

While on the brink of war, the Shadowhunters are forced to decide whether they would fight against Valentine or let him be their leader. If they chose to fight, they must accept help from the Downworlders. While many of the characters see Valentine as the greater evil, the stigma around Downworlders makes cooperation seem unlikely. This book contains themes such as forbidden love, equality, the search for identity, and the importance of family.

The book received mixed reviews but was generally well received by the fans of the book series. The book was published in 2009 and is the third book, being followed by another three published books.
