Conversations with Friends Irony

Situational irony: Bobbi’s jealousy

Despite the fact that Bobbi openly flirted with Melissa and indeed was the one to break up with Frances, she is jealous of the relationship between Nick and Frances and finds ways to spill the secret to Melissa.

Dramatic irony: Frances’ chaotic relationships

Frances tries to appropriate a relationship with Nick despite the fact that he is happily married, purely because she wants to. Perhaps this is a reflection of the chaotic life she endured whilst living with an alcoholic mother. She cannot seem to avoid getting into complex and messy relationships, whether it is with her father, Nick or Bobbi.
