    Cory tells Troy this because Troy has, in Cory's eyes, finally done enough to disqualify him of the respect he used to demand from Cory. For the entirety of the play until this point, Cory has respected his father's wishes, regardless of how furious Troy's decisions made him or how unjust the decisions were. Cory's devotion to Troy was close to reverence, and Troy has finally undone it with his infidelity.
