How did H's chapter make you feel? What was surprising about it?
H's chapter is tough, especially because the Civil War is over. It would be nice to be able to think of that as the end of slavery, but instead slavery has just shifted in form. The chapter is a somewhat jarring moment where readers understand this book is not glossing over issues. There has been a lot of brutality and violence in previous chapters, but H's section shows that the brutality is going to continue into modern American (eg post Civil War) history, and the present.
