    Why, according to the narrator, is the Leaver story worth knowing?

    Ishmael has made it clear throughout the book that Takers are enacting the wrong story and that it is destroying the world. The narrator realizes, though, that people can’t just give up a story without having another story with which to replace it. According to the narrator, that’s why the revolution of the 1960s and 1970s failed. Young people tried to give up the Taker life, but they didn’t have a new story to enact. If people hear and understand the Leaver story, they might choose it over the Taker story.
