Written by Roald Dahl in 1961, James and the Giant Peach was well received. The book was originally titled James and the Giant Cherry, but Dahl changed it because he thought a peach was "prettier, bigger, and squishier than a cherry." The original illustrations were drawn by Nancy Ekholm Burkert, though later editions used other illustrators.
