Structure:

Much of Les Misérables consists of extensive biographical information about a person or location. For instance, the start of the novel spends a great deal of time describing Bishop Myriel before we meet Jean Valjean. Similarly, Book 7 of today's reading provides a detailed history of the convent (and, in fact, this book is often taken out of editions of the novel, as it provides little in the way of plot development).
