Lolita is full of allusions to other books and authors, such as Nabokov's favorite poet, Edgar Allen Poe (Annabel Leigh is named after the poem "Annabel Lee," for instance). In Chapter 26 of Part One, Nabokov parodies James Joyce's stream-of-consciousness style. There are also several references to French literature - unsurprising, as it is Humbert's field of expertise - including Flaubert, Proust, and Baudelaire.
