Study Objectives

If all of the elements of this lesson plan are employed, students will develop the following powers, skills, and understanding:

    Students will consider the concept of the unreliable narrator, and just how much the reader can believe what Humbert shares with them.

    Students will discuss how the character of Dolores (Lolita) is silenced and objectified by Humbert's narration, and how this practice may be expanded to women's voices in society as a whole.

  3. 3

    Students will explore the various literary pastiches and parodies employed by Nabokov throughout the novel.

  4. 4

    Students will discuss the nature of Humbert's obsession with Dolores and the psychology behind it.
