Why doesn't Lucy want to return home?

Students should discuss how Lucy's discomfort in returning home is largely rooted in being judged and/or shamed by her family and community. Responses should specifically talk about Lucy trying to escape the trauma inflicted upon her by her mother. Students should draw on previous flashbacks and memories Lucy has shared about her relationship with her mother.
