What does Macbeth and Banquo's conversation at the beginning of Act II reveal about their feelings and their relationship?
Their friendship and sense of confidence in each other is clear from this dialogue. Macbeth shows his anxiety about the deed he knows he is about to perform; Banquo seems to feel a sense of foreboding, in spite of his exhaustion. Macbeth promises a conversation; does he have any intention of having it? Students may disagree on this point—is Macbeth a true friend to Banquo, or do they see seeds of change?
