It is thought that Shakespeare did not write Act III, Scene 5. Are there stylistic differences that make you believe this is true? Why or why not?
As evidence against Shakespearean authorship, students may point to the strictness of the rhymed couplets throughout Hecate's speech, how little of a role Hecate takes in the rest of the play, and the fact that the witches with whom the audience is familiar hardly speak in this scene. They may, however, point out the similarities in scansion and style to other scenes containing the Witches.
