Miles Morales Background

Miles Morales Background

Miles Morales is a novel written by the award-winning author Jason Reynolds, who decided to create his own version of the well-known Spider-Man world. The novel follows an African American and Hispanic boy called Miles who goes to the Brooklyn Visions Academy, and who struggles with the daily issues of a teenage boy, like studying, falling in love, and playing video games. Aside from that, Miles is also Spider-Man. As of recently, Miles’ spidey senses have been starting to kick in, and he begins to grow more anxious, especially after having to sit through the whitewashing of slavery in a history class. Racism is one of the central themes in the story, but in an interview with Redital, a small publishing and content-creating company, the author points out that, besides the racial undertones, the story contains a universal theme of fighting for what’s right, even when one is uncomfortable. The story was published in 2017 by Marvel Press, and the book was well received as an enrichment of the Spider-Man universe.
