    What do the story of Atalanta and the story of the Judgement of Paris have in common?

    Both involve the use of beautiful golden apples in order to distract and manipulate. In Atalanta's case, an enthusiastic suitor uses apples as a distraction in order to win a race against Atalanta and, thereby, to win her hand in marriage. In the case of the Judgement of Paris, Eris, the goddess of Discord, throws a beautiful golden apple into the middle of a wedding banquet in order to disrupt the proceedings and pit the guests against one another.
