Pedro Páramo is one of two literary works published by Juan Rulfo in his lifetime. The other, El Llano en Llamas, is a collection of seventeen short stories published in 1953. Since then, fifteen of the seventeen stories in El Llano en Llamas have been published in English. Like Pedro Páramo, the stories in El Llano en Llamas were greatly influenced by Rulfo’s experiences of the aftermath of the Mexican Revolution and Cristero War.
