    Classwide Discussion

    Objective:

    Students will be able to discuss gender discrimination in math and science in the play and in society

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.SL.9-10.1

    Structure:

    Start by leading a class discussion about the role of gender in the play. Ask the class whether Catherine faces discrimination because of her gender. Students should point out that Hal does not think Catherine knows enough math to decide which of Robert’s notebooks has useable information in it; he also finds it impossible to believe that she could have written the proof he finds.
