How does the flashback in Scene 4 relate to the flashback in Scene 1?
The flashback in Scene 4, like that in Scene 1, also portrays Robert and Catherine sitting on the porch. In both, Robert seems much better mentally than he has been in recent years, and in both Catherine is pleased by this. However, Robert seems more unstable in Scene 4 and Catherine is more concerned over his health. Most importantly, it is revealed at the end of Scene 4 that Robert has relapsed and is no longer mentally well.
