Othello is a character from Shakespeare's work, Othello. Othello is an outsider, a Moor living in Venice, acting as an ambassador of the Moors. He is eloquent, widely respected, and he holds the status of general in the Venetian army. He elopes with the daughter of a venerated senator, Desdemona.
