Multiple suicides, violence against a sexual partner, the murder of a sexual partner, forced arranged marriage, and a murder-suicide all occur in the novel. The practice of both female and male circumcision and polygamy are also mentioned in the novel as well, though not in as much detail as the sexual violence. This material may be triggering to some students and the teacher should warn the class ahead of time about each of these occurrences.
