Hurstwood leaves the hotel where he’s been living since being kicked out of the house by his wife to meet with Carrie at the park. However, she does not show up, because she now knows about his marriage. Hurstwood goes to work, but he cannot concentrate. He begins receiving messages from Mrs. Hurstwood, demanding money to keep her from telling people about his affair.
