Speaking in Tongues is a play written by Australian playwright Andrew Bovell, and follows nine different characters who are all connected by affairs and infidelities. Largely about relationships and marital infidelity, this play reveals the darker sides of humanity.
The play consists of two parts, with the first part chronicling two inter-connected couples and their one-night infidelities. There is also a mystery introduced whereby a woman goes missing, and someone is seen suspiciously throwing a stiletto into a tip.
The next part introduces more characters, who are also related to each other in various ways. This includes Sarah, Neil (Sarah's ex,) Nick (the original couple's neighbor,) and Valerie (Sarah's therapist.) In the third and final part of this play, the mystery is solved, and we are left to reflect on the various relationship problems explored.
