Matrimony

In the play’s first act, four characters consisting of Sonja who is married to Leon and John is married to Jane. The audience gets to experience the matrimonial bond between these couples and their inner battles. We get to see how they go through being faithful to their partner and staying true to their vows.

Infidelity

Sonja is trying to have an affair with John because Leon is having an affair with Jane. The infidelity of the characters causes a ripple effect that affects everyone close and far away from them. Through these characters, the audience sees the jealousy that is fueled by their sexuality. Their baggage that they carry within marriage makes them drift away from their partners and causes them to be unfaithful.

Betrayal & Deceit

The title of the feature film based on the play, Lantana is the name of a plant that looks attractive on purpose. In reality, the plant is a dense and malignant weed that grows uncontrollably and chokes every other plant around it. Just like the plant, these characters infect everyone around them with their betrayals and deceit without a care for the repercussions. Their lives get tangled up in an ugly and disgusting way that it’s irreversible.
