Regulation of the digestive secretions is important in order for proper and effective digestion to occur. Digestive secretions are regulated by both hormones and the nervous system. Gastrin, secretin, and cholecystokinin (among others) are some of the digestive secretions produced during the digestion process. If these secretions are not regulated, improper digestion will occur which can result in the non-absorption of essential nutrients from food intake, upset stomach, and other digestion-related issues.
