The Dark Knight Rises is the finale to the famed Batman trilogy directed by the acclaimed Christopher Nolan, and was released on July 2012 and distributed by Warner Bros.

In this movie, Christian Bale reprises his role as the infamous playboy Bruce Wayne, who leads a secret double life as the vigilante, Batman. Here, he deals with the death of his beloved, Rachel, he has lost his crime fighting ways and is now retires. However, the introduction of Selina Kyle/Catwoman, and notorious villain, Bane, draws him out of his solitude to ensure peace in Gotham City once again.

The film had a large ensemble cast, including Anne Hathaway as Selina, Marion Cotillard as Talia al Ghul, and Tom Hardy as Bane, which drew in a lot of media attention prior to the release of the movie. Nolan has cited the comic book storylines, ‘Knightfall’ and ‘No Man’s Land’ as inspiration for the movie’s own storyline. The movie was hugely successful, retaining over a billion dollars world wide, and has been noted as being one of the best movies of 2012. Indeed, it is currently the nineteenth highest grossing film of all time.
