Paul describes his life at Georgia Pines, which has only grown more boring over the two years that he's lived there. His only source of excitement comes when he goes for daily walks, carrying a piece of toast from the kitchen and visiting the shed. This habit catches the attention of Brad Dolan, an orderly at the nursing home. Dolan regularly hassles Paul, using any excuse to harass him about minor, inconsequential rules. In particular, Brad wants to know what Paul does on his walks, a question that Paul is not willing to answer.
He's eventually helped by Elaine, who threatens to tell her...
