Although Stephen King is best known for his horror novels, many of his works share themes with The Green Mile. Students may consider seeking out his other dramatic works, such as the short story "Rita Heyworth and the Shawshank Redemption," Stand By Me, and Hearts in Atlantis. King's works of non-fiction may also be instructive, such as On Writing and Danse Macabre. For those interested in a similar story that gives priority to the perspectives of Black characters, consider reading Monster by Walter Dean Myers or In the Place of Justice by Wilbert Rideau.
