The Master Irony

The Master Irony

War Is Over

We see that the war is over, and the allies have won. Ironically, the soldiers are all brought to a hospital that feels more like a mental ward as their experiences overseas have left them deeply wounded.

Nothing Wrong

Freddie has given a drink to a man whose now passed out. He's accused of poisoning the man. Freddie denies it, but ironically begins to run as if he has in fact done it on purpose.

A Drunk

Lancaster calls Freddie a scoundrel for being a drunk on his ship. Ironically, Dodd wants Freddie to make more of his special liquid potion for him to indulge in himself.

Val

Val is Dodd's son. Ironically, he doesn't believe in the Cause. He says that his father is making it up as he goes.

End of Application

Freddie has been walking back and forth for hours in an application led by Dodd. He desires to understand what is meant to come from this, but gets nothing from the endless work. Ironically, Dodd calls an end to the application and Freddie knows he hasn't learned anything, but when he sees Dodd's smiling face they embrace as if they have just done something magical.
