Palpatine is alive and seeks vengeance. Kylo Ren travels to an unknown planet using a Way finder to navigate uncharted territories. He meets with Palpatine to discuss the politics of the dark side. Palpatine reveals a fleet of Destroyer ships built by the loyal Siths. He promises to hand over command of the entire fleet to Ren if he kills Rey.
Rey is still training and feels constant pressure from Princess Leia and Finn. She feels uneasy which prompts her to finally join the team on a mission. The team, comprised of Rey, Finn, Poe, Chewbacca, BB-8, and C-3PO set off in the Millennium Falcon to find a Way finder in Pasaana that will lead them to Palpatine’s location. Ren also happens to be in Pasaana. He connects his subconscious with Rey’s using the force. As they confront each other with their power, Rey unintentionally destroys the ship that Chewbacca was believed to be in.
Rey escapes feeling guilty about Chewbacca's supposed death. Using the clue they found in Pasaana, they travel to Kijimi to decipher a code that will provide the location of the Way finder. The remaining members ambush Ren’s ship to find Chewbacca alive. Rey and Ren confront each other again. This time, Rey learns that she is the granddaughter of Palpatine. Ren tries unsuccessfully to convince Rey to join him.
The team finally has the location of the Way finder and Rey goes to retrieve it. Ren ambushes her and destroys the Way finder. As they fight each other, Ren overpowers Rey. Luckily, Leia reaches out to Ren using the force to stop him from killing Rey. Rey gets an advantage and attacks, Ren, hurting him significantly.
Rey heals Ren’s wound with her powers when she realizes that Leia is dead. She travels back to Ahch To as a sign of giving up. Luke comes to her in spirit and motivates her to get back to the battlefield. Rey leaves with a light saber belonging to Leia and Luke’s ship. She uses Ren’s Way finder to navigate to Palpatine’s whereabouts.
Ren has an identity crisis that makes him revert to Ben Solo. Rey arrives in Exegol as the resistance is getting ready for war. She meets Palpatine who offers his life to her as a means of spiritual passage. The resistance in its entirety arrives in Exegol in time to attack the final order. Palpatine overpower Rey and Ren, who has left the dark side to help the resistance.
He uses his overloaded power to destroy several resistance forces. Rey masters the force and receives the power of all Jedi which helps her kill Palpatine. She accidentally kills herself but Ren resurrects her. They share an emotional kiss before Ren disappears into thin air. The resistance claims victory over the first order. Rey travels to Luke Skywalker’s home and embraces herself as a Skywalker.
