The fiesta in Pamplona reaches its climax on Sunday, July 6. The streets are filled with peasants drinking wine from wine shops as they cannot afford the prices of the cafés. Despite being a religious festival, with some people attending mass, the atmosphere is one of unrestrained revelry. Rockets shoot up into the sky to announce the start of the fiesta, accompanied by the lively music of pipers and drummers. Men and boys dance behind them, and a man playing a reed pipe leads children down the street. Among the jubilant crowd, a banner exclaims, "Hurray for Wine! Hurray for the Foreigners!"
