The Civil Rights Act of 1875
This Act was mean to be revolutionary in that it was meant to change the treatment of African Americans forever. Despite the fact that this was not the case, it still marks a symbolic event in history for the legal rights of black people.
Foster’s life
The turn of events that took place in Foster’s life is a symbol of hope to African Americans. Whilst he had to leave the South, he saw this as an opportunity to live his dream and went on to become a successful surgeon in California.
