    The Elements of Mystery

    Kind of Activity:

    Collaborative Writing

    Objective:

    Students will analyze how the novel employs the elements of the mystery genre

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.6.3; CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.6.5

    Structure:

    The Westing Game uses the classic elements of the mystery genre. In this project, students will search through the novel to uncover how Raskin used the elements of mystery to structure her story.

    Activity:

    1) After finishing the novel, discuss with students what makes The Westing Game a mystery. Elicit from students the specific parts of the novel that make it seem to be a part of this genre of writing.
